Sick Woman Carried 11 KM on Foot as Uttarkashi Village Lacks Road

The lack of road facilities has once again come to light in Seva village, located in Mori block of Uttarkashi. Here, villagers carried a sick woman on a makeshift stretcher for 11 kilometers to reach the road, after which she was taken to the hospital.

56-year-old Khantra Devi, a resident of Seva village, suddenly fell seriously ill. She started experiencing high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and weakness in her legs. When her condition worsened, villagers immediately prepared a makeshift stretcher and carried her through narrow hilly paths to Dhaula, which is about 11 kilometers away from the village on the road. From there, the woman was taken by vehicle to Mori hospital, where after initial treatment she was referred to a higher center.

According to the villagers, the road to Seva village is extremely difficult and risky. From Dhaulā to the village, there is only a narrow footpath, where movement becomes even more difficult during the rainy season. To take sick or pregnant women to the hospital, villagers often have to rely on makeshift stretchers. Many times, patients even die on the way.

Even after 10 years, the road remains incomplete
Villagers said that road construction from Dhaulā to Seva village began around ten years ago, but it has still not been completed. Due to the road not being built, villagers face problems regarding health, education, and other basic facilities. During the rainy season, the village’s connection to external areas is almost cut off.

PMGSY said, work will be completed soon
In this matter, Subhash Dauriyal, the Assistant Engineer of PMGSY, informed that the construction work of Seva village road is ongoing. The department is making efforts to complete the road soon so that the villagers can get relief for commuting and health facilities.
