Vaishno Devi Yatra resumes from today after 3-week halt

Mata Vaishno Devi Dham has once again echoed with the chants of ‘Jai Mata Di’. After 3 weeks, Mata’s court has opened again for the devotees. On Wednesday, September 17, Mata Vaishno Yatra has started again for the devotees. Let us tell you that the Yatra was suspended on 26 August after the landslide incident. 34 devotees were killed and 20 others were injured in this accident.

Amid the chants of ‘Jai Mata Di’, the pilgrimage to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple located on the Trikuta hills resumed on Wednesday, officials said. This pilgrimage was suspended for 22 days due to the landslide.

Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra started again from today
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’ on Tuesday, “Jai Mata Di… Vaishno Devi Yatra will resume from September 17, 2025 (Wednesday) under favorable weather conditions. Devotees are requested to keep getting information through official communication channels.”

Devotees moving towards Mata’s court
The decision to resume the pilgrimage was taken at a time when two days ago some pilgrims had demonstrated at the Katra base camp demanding to resume the journey. Earlier, the shrine board had decided to resume the journey on September 14, but due to continuous rain it was extended for more days.

After this some devotees demonstrated. They started trying repeatedly to go on pilgrimage by breaking the security cordon and violating the instructions of the shrine board. But now Mata’s court has opened for the devotees. Devotees have started moving towards Mata’s court with full enthusiasm.

Why was the Vaishno Devi Yatra stopped?
The Yatra was stopped immediately after the landslide at Vaishno Devi on August 26. Now that most of the repair work on the way to the cave temple has been completed, the Yatra has been resumed. The Yatra was postponed keeping in mind the safety of the devotees. The landslide that occured on August 26, claimed 34 lives and many were left injured.
