VB GRAM G implemented in Punjab; Mann Govt issues notification

The VB G Ram G (Viksit Bharat Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Mission) scheme has been implemented in Punjab. The state government has issued a notification regarding its implementation.

Previously, the Punjab government had opposed this scheme; a resolution against it had even been passed in the Legislative Assembly. Under this central scheme, there is a provision to guarantee 125 days of employment to rural households in a financial year.

The central government introduced the Viksit Bharat Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Mission (Rural) Act by repealing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. The bill was passed by Parliament last December and subsequently received the President’s assent.

Increased Work Guarantee: Eligible rural households are legally entitled to 125 days of guaranteed unskilled manual wage employment per financial year (up from 100 days).

Funding Model: The financial burden is now shared, with the Centre and the state sharing costs in a 60:40 ratio.

Agricultural Buffer: The scheme features a 60-day “no-work” pause window to protect agricultural labor availability during peak planting and harvesting seasons.

Seamless Transition: Ongoing rural works and verified e-KYC job cards from the previous framework will carry over smoothly so workers do not lose any workdays.
