New Delhi: Rajya Sabha member Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney reiterated his long-standing demand for the release of imprisoned Sikhs on the occasion of Human Rights Day. He said that many imprisoned Sikhs have been in jail for more than 30 years and have been repeatedly denied parole to meet their dying parents.

Speaking in Parliament on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, Dr. Sahni said that the Sikh community has always been at the forefront in protecting the honour and unity of India. He recalled the sacrifices and service of Sikhs, from martyrs to soldiers guarding the borders.

Sahni also said that the Sikh Gurus gave the message of maintaining harmony, rejecting hatred and protecting the weak. He clarified that protecting the rights of minorities is not just a constitutional duty but the soul of India.
