    Mohali: Polling for Punjabโ€™s municipal elections witnessed rising political tensions in several districts on Tuesday, with allegations of booth capturing, assaults, voter irregularities, and misuse of police machinery surfacing from multiple areas.

    Voting Concludes; Voters in Queue Still Allowed to Cast Ballots

    Polling officially ended at 5 pm, after which polling booth gates were closed. However, voters already standing in queues were allowed to cast their votes. Security was tightened across polling stations to ensure only eligible queued voters were permitted inside.

    Allegations of Police Bias and Booth Irregularities in Kumbra, Mohali

    A Shiromani Akali Dal candidate in Kumbra, Mohali, alleged that fake votes were being cast in favour of the Aam Aadmi Party after unauthorized entry into the polling booth. The candidate also accused police personnel of manhandling and slapping him during the confrontation. The incident took place at Government Primary Smart School, where polling was underway. Police later reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

    Tensions, Clashes and Allegations Reported Across Multiple Wards

    In Khannaโ€™s Ward No. 13, residents expressed anger over alleged voting irregularities, including claims of advance voting. In Samanaโ€™s Ward No. 9, a scuffle broke out at Booth No. 23 after alleged anti-social elements entered the polling station and manhandled women, with reports also claiming attempts to tear ballot papers.

    Political Confrontations and Violence Mark Closing Hours of Polling

    Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia reached Majitha Police Station over the assault case involving party worker Tajinderpal Singh Singh and demanded strict action against those responsible. The incident led to a heated exchange between SAD and AAP workers outside the police station after some detained individuals were reportedly released.

    As polling neared its close, sporadic clashes and violence were reported from multiple locations, with opposition parties accusing the administration of bias. Stone-pelting was also reported from Ward No. 19, where SAD and Congress workers were allegedly assaulted by AAP supporters, while police were accused of failing to intervene effectively.

    Rama Mandi Sees Tension Over Allegations of Fake Voting

    A controversy erupted in Rama Mandi after allegations of fake voting surfaced, with claims that a young voterโ€™s ballot was allegedly cast by someone else, leading to chaos at the polling station.

    Shiromani Akali Dal Halqa in-charge Ravi Preet Singh Sidhu accused the Aam Aadmi Party of being involved in the incident, alleging that the ruling party was enabling bogus voting with alleged support from the police.

    Bathinda reported a voter turnout of 47.53 per cent till 2 pm during the ongoing civic elections.

    Tension prevailed at Ward No. 31 in Mohali after reports of commotion and allegations of booth capturing were raised during polling.

    Voting at a sensitive polling station in Ward No. 13 of Nawanshahr witnessed tense moments during the civic bypolls after Independent candidates Paramjit Singh Bakhshi and Makhan Singh Grewal engaged in a heated exchange outside the booth over alleged attempts to influence voters.

    Supporters of both candidates gathered at the site, further escalating the situation, with eyewitnesses reporting that the area had remained tense since the morning.

    Samana Ward No. 19 Demands Re-Poll Over Alleged Irregularities

    Candidates from Ward No. 19 in Samana have written to the Returning Officer seeking cancellation of the polling and demanding fresh elections, citing alleged irregularities during voting.

    The appeal follows reports of a confrontation between police and locals, which created tension in the area during the electoral process.

    Bikram Singh Majithia condemns alleged hooliganism by unidentified individuals during polling

    In Amritsarโ€™s Majitha, tensions escalated after several violent incidents were reported during polling. Bikram Singh Majithia accused the Aam Aadmi Party of โ€œhooliganismโ€ and alleged that the Majitha SSP failed to act against those responsible. Majithia claimed that party workers were attacked even after approaching the police station to file complaints.

    An Akali Dal woman candidate, Amarjeet Kaur, was allegedly manhandled during polling, while an Akali worker accompanying his elderly mother to vote was reportedly assaulted. Allegations of booth capturing also emerged from Ward No. 9. In another incident, the husband of a Congress candidate, who was serving as a polling agent, was allegedly stopped from entering the polling booth.

    Earlier in the day, Shiromani Akali Dal worker Tajinderpal Singh Mann was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by unidentified assailants in Majitha.

    Gurkirat Singh Kotli alleges large-scale vote deletion and polling irregularities in Khanna

    Meanwhile, former Cabinet Minister Gurkirat Singh Kotli alleged large-scale deletion of votes and irregular movement of AAP workers inside polling stations in Khanna. The allegations triggered tension outside a polling station in Ward No. 5.

    In Gidderbaha, the Shiromani Akali Dal submitted a complaint to the State Election Commission against Dimpy Dhillon, accusing him, his PA Jagtar Singh, and party workers of booth capturing, intimidating opposition supporters, and misusing police machinery during polling.

    Despite tensions in several regions, some areas witnessed peaceful voting. In Malerkotlaโ€™s Ward No. 8, candidates from the BJP, Congress, and AAP maintained a calm and disciplined atmosphere throughout polling. Gurmit Singh praised candidates Manpreet Bagga, Rajesh Kumar, and Khushi Mohammad for ensuring peaceful conduct during voting.

    Fatehgarh Sahib registers 51% voter turnout by 2 pm amid ongoing polling

    Voter turnout figures continued to rise steadily across districts. Fatehgarh Sahib recorded an overall turnout of 51 per cent till 2 pm, with Khamanon registering the highest polling at 57.97 per cent.

    Calm Prevails at Ward No. 8 in Malerkotla Amid Statewide Polling Tensions

    Polling remained peaceful and orderly at Ward No. 8 in Malerkotla, where candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party maintained a calm atmosphere throughout the voting process.

    The contest turned largely triangular after Abdul Hameed of the Shiromani Akali Dal withdrew his nomination. Besides the three major parties, at least four Independent candidates were also in the fray, officials said.

    Ward No. 8 has a mixed population of Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, and Christians. Unlike reports of clashes and tension from some other parts of Punjab, candidates in the ward allowed voters to exercise their franchise peacefully.

    Gurmit Singh praised the conduct of BJP candidate Manpreet Bagga, Congress candidate Rajesh Kumar, and AAP candidate Khushi Mohammad. He also appealed to candidates and supporters in other wards to avoid confrontations over minor electoral issues.

    SAD Lodges Complaint Against AAP MLA Dimpy Dhillon Over Alleged Booth Capturing

    The Shiromani Akali Dal has submitted a complaint to the State Election Commission, Punjab, accusing Dimpy Dhillon of alleged booth capturing during the civic polls.

    In its complaint, SAD alleged that Dhillon, along with his personal assistant Jagtar Singh and several AAP workers, intimidated opposition supporters and misused police machinery during polling.

    The party further claimed that the MLA and his associates unlawfully interfered in the voting process and attempted to influence polling stations through force, intimidation, and alleged misuse of official machinery.

    Tension in Majitha as SAD, AAP workers face off during Punjab civic polls

    A tense situation emerged in Majitha area of Amritsar after supporters of the Shiromani Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party came face to face during polling.

    Senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia had reached Ward No. 2 to review the situation when the confrontation took place between workers of both parties.

    Police personnel present at the spot quickly intervened and separated supporters from both sides to bring the situation under control and maintain law and order.

    Harsimrat Kaur Badal attacks Aam Aadmi Party over alleged high-handedness and hooliganism during Punjab civic polls.

    Chaos and tension marked the ongoing Municipal Council elections in several parts of Punjab on Monday, with reports of clashes, alleged fake voting, broken ballot box seals, and lack of facilities for voters emerging from multiple districts.

    In Ward No. 36 of Sector 70, Mohali, controversy erupted after the seal of a ballot box at Booth No. 134 was allegedly found broken even before polling began, leading to tension among voters and party workers.

    Violence and disorder were also reported from Ward No. 18 in Patti in Tarn Taran district. At booths set up in a government school, clashes allegedly broke out after a crowd attempted illegal voting. Reports claimed ballot papers were snatched during the chaos, while journalists covering the incident were also allegedly manhandled and had mobile phones snatched.

    Congress workers accuse Surjit Singh Rakhra of misconduct during polling in Samana.

    In Samana, Congress workers accused former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra of misconduct during polling in Ward No. 15. Congress leaders alleged that anti-social elements were brought in to disrupt polling and claimed women were manhandled while opposition booths were vandalised.

    Meanwhile, voters in Samrala raised concerns over the absence of wheelchair facilities at several polling booths. Elderly and specially-abled voters reportedly faced difficulties in casting their votes, with family members forced to carry some disabled voters to polling stations.

    According to election officials, voter turnout till 12 noon in the eight Municipal Corporations was recorded as:
