Punjab: The weather has changed in Punjab and Chandigarh. The weather is a bit cooler due to drizzle and storms during the night. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain at some places on April 1 and April 2.
While no major storm alert has been issued for today, warnings of storms and strong winds remain in place for the next two to three days.
The temperature has increased by 2.2 degrees and is now 2.4 degrees above normal. Patiala recorded the highest temperature at 34.8 degrees. However, Punjab witnessed 25 percent less rainfall than normal in March.
Rain Expected in 12 Districts
Light to moderate rainfall is likely in 12 districts of Punjab today, while Chandigarh is expected to remain cloudy. Similar weather conditions will prevail across the state. Rain is expected at isolated places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Tarn Taran.
Rainfall Deficit Despite Heavy Showers in Some Areas
Punjab recorded 25 percent below normal rainfall in March. The state received 16.3 mm of rainfall against the normal 21.8 mm. Rupnagar (49.3 mm) and Pathankot (45.6 mm) recorded the highest rainfall during this period. Meanwhile, districts like Muktsar (-89%), Bathinda (-77%), and Fazilka (-80%) witnessed the highest rainfall deficits.
Western Disturbance Influencing Weather
According to the Meteorological Department, a Western Disturbance is currently active over North Pakistan and Jammu, leading to changing weather conditions.
A wind pressure system over South-West Rajasthan and shifting systems from Uttar Pradesh are also influencing the weather. Strong jet stream winds in North India are contributing to rapid weather changes.
Another Western Disturbance is expected to arrive from April 2, which may further impact weather conditions, although the current system is gradually weakening.
Rain Likely Till April 6
Meteorological Department Director Surendra Pal stated that rainfall activity is expected to continue until April 6.
Light to moderate rain is likely on April 1, 5, and 6 in some areas, while more widespread rain is expected on April 3 and 4.
Over the next four days, daytime temperatures are expected to rise gradually by 3 to 4 degrees, followed by a drop of 3 to 4 degrees thereafter.
