New Delhi: HCL Group founder Shiv Nadar has recently transferred 47% stake in the company to his daughter Roshni Nadar Malhotra. According to the ‘Bloomberg Billionaires Index’, Roshni has now become the third richest Indian with a net worth of Rs 3.13 lakh crore. Only Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani have more wealth than her.

Before Roshni, her father Shiv Nadar was the third richest person in India. HCL Technology led by him is the third largest IT company in the country. Its market cap is Rs 4.20 lakh crore. Now more than half of its stake is owned by Shiv Nadar’s daughter.

Roshni is a graduate in Communication from Northwestern University in Britain. She has also done MBA from Kellogg School of Management. Roshni started her career as a producer in Sky News in Britain.

Roshni surpasses Savitri Jindal

Roshni Nadar is now the richest woman in the country. In this case, she has left behind Savitri Jindal, who has assets worth Rs 2.63 lakh crore. Jindal is the fifth richest person. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires- India List, Mukesh Ambani remains the richest Indian with assets worth Rs 7.7 lakh crore. Gautam Adani, who is at the second position, has assets worth about Rs 6 lakh crore.

Role in partnership with America

Roshni is on the Board of Directors of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum. She is also on the Global Board of Directors of ‘The Nature Conservancy’. Apart from this, she is also an independent director on the board of HDFC Asset Management Company.

Roshni is a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation. She has been included in Fortune India’s list of most powerful women several times for her contribution to business and society.

Acquisition of 7 products of IBM

Roshni joined HCL Corporation, the holding company of her father’s company HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems, in 2009. She became the chairperson of HCL Tech in 2020. Under her leadership, HCL acquired 7 products of IBM for Rs 13,740 crore. This was the largest acquisition in the history of HCL.

Roshni Nadar’s role in HCL

HCL, founded in 1976, played a pivotal role in shaping India’s IT landscape. Under Roshni’s leadership, the company is expected to continue expanding its global footprint. With the stake transfer, she has become the majority shareholder of HCL Corp and Vama Delhi, the key promoter entities of HCLTech and HCL Infosystems. This move also grants her voting rights over HCL Corp’s 49.94% stake in HCL Infosystems and Vama Delhi’s 12.94% stake in the company.
