Woman Gang-Raped in Haridwar, Lured to Hotel on Pretext of Help

Haridwar: A case of gang rape has come to light in Haridwar where a woman who had come to meet her husband was being asked for directions to SIDCUL at the bus station when a young man named Ankit Verma lured her into his car, promising to help her.

It is alleged that his friend, Shyam Sahu, also joined them on the way. Instead of taking her to SIDCUL, they took her to a hotel in Shivmurti Gali, where she was gang-raped.

The police acted swiftly and arrested the three main accused within a few hours and sent them to jail.

Conspiracy hatched in the name of help

According to the police, the victim is originally from Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh) and had come to Haridwar on Saturday evening to meet her husband, who works at SIDCUL. The accused deceived her while she was asking for directions at the bus station.

On the way, a second accused joined them, and they took her to a hotel. The crime was committed there. The victim somehow managed to escape and reached the city police station and narrated the entire incident to the police.

Hotel manager also involved, all three arrested

Investigation revealed that hotel manager Govinda Singh was also involved in the case. He provided rooms without identification or necessary formalities and assisted the accused.

Police teams led by Inspector Ritesh Shah interrogated seven hotel owners in the area for approximately 23 hours. Based on CCTV footage and location tracking, a cordon was laid and the three accused were arrested within four hours from the canal bank.

The arrested accused include Ankit Verma (native to Nahtaur, Bijnor, currently residing in Jwalapur), Shyam Sahu (resident of Shastri Nagar, Jwalapur), and Govinda Singh (native to Moradabad, currently residing in Haridwar).

The police registered a case against the accused under serious charges of gang rape and produced them in court, from where they were sent to jail. The victim has been medically examined, and a detailed investigation into the case is ongoing.
