Women Benefit from Free Bus Travel; Punjab Government Spends ₹298 Crore

A large number of women are availing the benefits of the Punjab government’s free bus travel scheme. So far, the Punjab government has spent approximately ₹298 crore on this scheme. According to the government, women in Punjab undertake around 1.20 crore free bus journeys every month.

Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, stated that the free bus travel scheme is gaining continuous popularity among women. A large number of women utilize this facility daily, gaining financial relief while commuting for essential tasks.

Relief in Commuting for Employment and Education

Dr. Baljit Kaur noted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is consistently implementing schemes to economically empower women. The free bus travel facility is a significant step in this direction. The scheme provides relief from daily commuting expenses, particularly benefiting women who need to travel regularly for jobs, education, medical treatment, or other essential activities.

The Punjab government believes that reduced travel costs have made it easier for women to access employment, education, and healthcare services. Additionally, they are able to manage family and social commitments with greater ease.

The Minister explained that this facility is provided on government buses, offering women safe and convenient public transport at a minimal cost.
