Despite decrease in Yamuna’s water level regions of Delhi-NCR, Noida remain flooded

Amid the flood situation in Delhi, there has been a slight decrease in the water level of the Yamuna. The water level was recorded at 207.35 at 5 am on Friday (Delhi Yamuna Flood). Whereas if we talk about Thursday, the water level of the Yamuna River at the Delhi Railway Bridge site was recorded at 207.42 meters at 7 pm.

This was 2.09 meters more than the danger level of 205.33 meters. Taking precautionary measures to deal with the flood, the administration has closed all 13 regulatory drains of Delhi. Sand-filled sacks have been placed at the mouths of rainwater drainage drains extending from Vasudev Ghat to Yamuna bank in the city so that the river water does not enter the low-lying areas of the city.

Let us tell you that amid the subsiding of the Yamuna flood, the people living in relief camps are facing the threat of vector-borne diseases. In fact, the difficulties of the people increased due to water entering many camps. Floodwater entered relief camps in Mayur Vihar Phase-1 and Yamuna Bazaar, increasing the troubles of people displaced due to the floods.

The Executive Engineer of the Jal Shakti Ministry has said this important thing in the latest flood forecast report sent to the Delhi government and NDRF officials. The Central Water Commission of the Jal Shakti Ministry mentioned this report in a post on the social media platform X and said, “According to current indications, the water level will continue to fall and the water level is likely to be 207.30 by 08:00 on September 5, after which the water level is likely to continue to fall”.

However, in his report, the Executive Engineer has cautioned that “the above forecast may be further affected due to the water released from Wazirabad and Okhla barrages”.

52% more rain recorded in Delhi

Due to heavy rainfall in the upper Yamuna catchment area for the last few days and release of large amount of water from Hathini Kund Barrage, there is a threat of flood in some areas of the national capital. According to the data available with the India Meteorological Department, till September 4, 2025, 704.7 mm of rain has been recorded in Delhi in this monsoon season. Whereas on average, 464.3 mm of rain is recorded. That is, so far this year, 52% more rain than the average has been recorded.

In this monsoon season, 539.9 mm of rain was recorded in Delhi’s neighboring state, Haryana till September 4. On average, till this day, a total of 365.4 mm of rain has been recorded in the state. That is, so far this year 48% more rain than the average has been recorded in Haryana.
