Moving Maruti Swift Catches Fire on Delhi-Jaipur Highway in Gurugram, Driver Escapes Unhurt

Gurugram: A moving Maruti Swift car suddenly caught fire near Bilaspur on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway (NH-48) in Gurugram, triggering panic among motorists and disrupting traffic for a considerable time. The driver managed to escape in time after noticing smoke coming from the car’s bonnet.

According to eyewitnesses, the car was travelling from Delhi towards Jaipur when it reached Bilaspur Chowk. Thick black smoke suddenly began emerging from the engine area, and the flames soon started spreading towards the cabin.

The driver immediately stopped the vehicle and jumped out, narrowly escaping the incident without sustaining any injuries.

Burning Car Triggers Panic on Busy Highway

The incident caused chaos on the busy highway, where traffic was already moving slowly due to ongoing flyover construction work in Bilaspur. Several vehicles came to a halt as motorists spotted the burning car, leading to long queues on the highway.

Passersby immediately informed the local police and fire department about the incident.

Fire Brigade Brings Blaze Under Control

Following the alert, police personnel and a fire brigade team reached the spot. Firefighters worked hard to bring the blaze under control. However, by the time the fire was extinguished, the car had been completely gutted.

After the operation, police used a crane to remove the damaged vehicle from the highway and shift it to the roadside, helping clear the affected stretch.

Short Circuit Suspected to Be Cause

A short circuit inside the vehicle is suspected to have triggered the fire, according to the initial assessment. Officials noted that unauthorised wiring, external modifications and overheating can sometimes contribute to such incidents in vehicles.

The driver escaped safely, and no injuries were reported in the incident.
