Oracle Layoffs: 6 AM Email Tells Employees ‘Today Is Your Last Working Day’ Amid Restructuring

Employees at Oracle were reportedly greeted with an unexpected termination email early in the morning, telling them that “today is your last working day” as the technology giant carries out another round of job cuts amid a broader organisational restructuring.

The email, reportedly sent around 6 am to affected employees, said Oracle had decided to eliminate their roles after considering the company’s “current business needs”. It described the move as part of a broader organisational change but did not provide individual reasons for the terminations.

Oracle has not publicly disclosed how many employees were affected by this latest round of layoffs. The company has also not formally acknowledged the latest cuts or publicly released the termination email.

What Did Oracle’s 6 AM Layoff Email Say?

The termination communication began by telling employees that the company was sharing “some difficult news” regarding their positions. It then informed them that their roles had been eliminated as part of a broader organisational change and that the same day would be their final working day.

The email said affected employees would be eligible for severance under Oracle’s applicable severance plan. It also said details regarding severance and termination would be sent through DocuSign.

Employees were asked to provide a personal email address to receive follow-up information, including separation documents and frequently asked questions.

    Oracle Access To Be Deactivated

The email also warned affected workers that access to their computers, email, voicemail and files would soon be deactivated. Employees were reminded that they could not download, copy or retain Oracle’s confidential information.

The abrupt sequence reportedly left little time between employees receiving the termination message and losing access to company systems.

Oracle Already Cut Around 21,000 Jobs

The latest layoffs come against the backdrop of a much larger restructuring at Oracle. The company’s workforce fell by around 21,000 employees, or 13 per cent, during fiscal 2026, leaving it with roughly 141,000 employees at the end of May, compared with about 162,000 a year earlier.

Oracle spent around $1.84 billion on severance and other restructuring-related costs during the fiscal year. The company has also increased its estimated restructuring costs by another $700 million, taking the expected cost of its fiscal 2026 restructuring programme to about $2.8 billion.

The job cuts are taking place as Oracle dramatically increases spending on artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure. Its capital expenditure reached $28.5 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, compared with $8.5 billion in the same period a year earlier. Oracle has retained a full-year capital expenditure forecast of $90 billion to $95 billion.

The company has also said that AI adoption and deployment were among the factors behind its workforce reduction, although the current wave of layoffs should not be viewed solely as AI replacing human workers, with cost-cutting and broader workforce restructuring also playing a role.
