Goa Nightclub Fire: Thai Police to Detain Luthra Brothers, Extradition to India Underway

After the massive fire that broke out at Goa’s “Birch by Romeo Lane” nightclub on December 6, the process of extraditing accused Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra from Thailand to India has begun. The Thai police had arrested both the accused in Phuket on December 11 and have now taken them to Bangkok, where they will be arrested by Indian agencies.

Extradition process from Thailand to India has begun

The Thai police have arrested Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, the main accused in the Goa “Birch by Romeo Lane” nightclub fire, from Phuket. They have now been brought to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, where they will be detained by Indian agencies. They will then be sent to the Sumfu Immigration Detention Centre.

Emergency travel certificates will be issued to bring them to India.

The passports of Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra have been cancelled, so the Indian embassy will issue them emergency travel certificates. Since there is no direct flight from Thailand to Goa, the two accused will first be brought to Delhi and then sent to Goa. This process will take about four days, and it is estimated that both the accused will reach Delhi by Monday.

Luthra brothers’ big disclosure related to companies

According to media reports, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra are associated with 42 other companies, most of which exist only on paper. These companies are registered at the same address in Delhi (2590, Ground Floor, Hudson Line, North-West Delhi). There is suspicion of money laundering and anonymous transactions through these companies, but this is under investigation.

“Birch Nightclub” Fire Incident and Allegations

On December 6, a major fire broke out at the “Birch by Romeo Lane” nightclub in Goa, killing 25 people. After the incident, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra fled India to Thailand. Thai police arrested them from a hotel in Phuket. They have been charged with attempted murder and reckless endangerment.

Fire brigade operations were underway in India when the Luthra brothers flew to Thailand.

According to investigating agencies, while fire brigade teams in Goa were trying to control the fire and rescue people, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra booked their flight tickets to Thailand. According to authorities, at 1:17 am on December 6, they logged on to an online travel website and flew from Delhi to Phuket on Indigo flight 6E 1073 at 5:30 am.

Interpol issues Blue Corner Notice against Luthra brothers

The Goa Police, through the Ministry of External Affairs and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), requested Interpol for the arrest of the Luthra brothers, following which Interpol issued a Blue Corner Notice against them.

Joint investigation by Delhi and Goa Police

Since the Luthra brothers, their business partners, manager and some employees are residents of Delhi, the Delhi Police is now investigating the fire incident in collaboration with the Goa Police. A case has also been registered in Delhi.
