In Amritsar, the nephew of former Congress Councilor Lakhanpal was shot at. He was standing outside his home with his sister, feeding dogs, when an assailant arrived on a scooter and suddenly opened fire.
The bullet struck the young man in the abdomen, causing him to collapse to the ground immediately. The attacker subsequently fled the scene. Family members rushed the injured victim to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The incident occurred late at night, around 11:00 PM, in the Chheharta area. The injured victim has been identified as Sagar. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and have initiated an investigation.
**Assailant Was Wearing a Helmet**
According to the police, Sagar had stepped out of his home at night to feed the dogs. At that time, his sister was also standing nearby. During this moment, a young man riding an Activa scooter approached; he was wearing a helmet.
He drew close, shot the victim directly in the abdomen, and fled the spot. The incident caused panic and commotion in the area. The injured youth was immediately admitted to a hospital, where his treatment is ongoing, and his condition is reported to be critical.
**Police Investigating the Case**
ACP Shiv Darshan stated that the police are investigating the matter from every possible angle. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being scrutinized, and some significant leads have already been obtained. Currently, no prior enmity or connection to organized crime (gangsters) has been confirmed; however, the police are not ruling out this aspect of the investigation.
**Former Minister: Government Has Failed on Every Front**
Meanwhile, former Cabinet Minister Dr. Raj Kumar Verka strongly condemned the incident and raised questions regarding the law and order situation in Punjab. He asserted that hooliganism is on the rise in Punjab, and common citizens are feeling unsafe.
Targeting the government, Raj Kumar stated that the administration has failed on every front, and the Chief Minister should take moral responsibility for the situation and resign. He warned that if the culprits are not arrested soon, the Congress party will take to the streets to stage protests. The police have given assurances that the guilty parties will be arrested shortly and that strict action will be taken against them.
