A building collapsed in Satya Niketan two months ago
This Delhi incident comes nearly two months after the Satya Niketan building collapse in September, which claimed seven lives.
The accident occurred on the afternoon of September 6th. Due to the weekend and the rain, students were inside the building at the time. Following the incident, the Supreme Court directed officials across the country to file affidavits detailing their actions to comply with its earlier directives to curb unauthorized construction.
Following this incident, the Delhi government also took action against MCD officials. Five officials were suspended and a campaign was ordered against buildings with unauthorized fifth-floor construction.
Buildings have also collapsed in Seemapuri and Harsh Vihar
The capital has witnessed several incidents of building collapses in the past few months. On October 7th, a portion of a multi-story building collapsed in the Seemapuri area of North Delhi, killing four people.
Meanwhile, on October 25, a building under construction collapsed in Milan Garden, Harsh Vihar, Northeast Delhi. It was reported that the lower slab collapsed during an attempt to illegally add an additional lintel or floor.
60-year-old Chanderpal and his 33-year-old son, Vijay Kumar, lost their lives in the accident.
Rescue operations are currently underway in Chawri Bazaar, and efforts are being made to rescue those trapped under the debris. Further information is awaited.
